Obituary of Silvan B. Lutkewitte
SILVAN BERNARD LUTKEWITTE JR., 80, of COLTS NECK, died Saturday surrounded by his family, having lived a full life of faith and love with family and friends. He retired in 1998 after a career of more than 40 years as a chemical engineer. Sil was an involved parishioner of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Colts Neck, and a dedicated board member of Our Lady of Providence Clinic, Neptune. He was an active citizen of Colts Neck as a member of the Colts Neck Lions, a founding father of the Colts Neck Business Association, and one of the developers of the Colts Neck Community Center. For the past 10+ years, Sil welcomed the weekday gathering of buddies for coffee and breakfast at Perkins, Saturday mornings with more friends at Dunkin Donuts and Tuesday lunches with the ROMEOs (Retired Old Men Eating Out). He enjoyed spending time with family and friends as well as sailing, hunting, reading, and traveling. Sil was a loving husband of 40 years to his wife Walene Loretta Lutkewitte who passed away in 2001. Born in St. Louis in 1933, Sil lived in Colts Neck for the past 35 years. Surviving are his daughter, Martha Leonhardt of Colts Neck; two sons and daughters-in-law, Silvan III & Ginny Lutkewitte of Hershey, PA, and Bob & Marie Louise Lutkewitte of Colts Neck; two brothers and their wives, Thomas & Elizabeth Lutkewitte of St. Louis, MO, and James & Maryalice Lutkewitte of St. Louis, MO; a sister-in-law, Joan Houska of Fair Lawn, OH; eight grandchildren who he cherished, Elizabeth and Gregory Leonhardt, Maddie, Jack and Brian Lutkewitte, and Emily, Caroline and Will Lutkewitte; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Church, Colts Neck. A Funeral Mass will be offered 9 a.m. Thursday at the church. Interment will follow in Holmdel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Sil's name to St. Mary's Social Concerns Fund, 1 Phalanx Road, Colts Neck, NJ 07722, or to support the Passionist Priests at The Immaculate Conception Monastery, 8645 Edgerton Blvd., Jamaica, NY 11432. Holmdel Funeral Home, Holmdel, is in charge of arrangements.
