Sergeant - UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS Alex V. Mandzik was surrounded by his loving family in his final days and passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2013 with his wife, Maureen at his side after a courageous battle with prostate cancer. Alex was a kind, compassionate, generous and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle. He was a friend to all who crossed his path. As an engineer at Bell Laboratories, he was brilliant and devoted to his work but never failed to miss the meaningfulness of Christmas, a phone call from his children or a romantic bouquet to his wife. The tenderness and strength he gave to his wife, children and grandchildren or the help to his parents, siblings and friends will never be forgotten and will be his legacy. He was truly an amazing man; as a former Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, he truly lived 'semper fi'. Alex is survived by his parents, Joan and Philip Mandzik; his wife, Maureen (Shanley); his children – daughter Jennifer, her husband Robert Wilson, granddaughters, Madeline and Ava; son Justin and his fiancé Hilary Roscoe; brother Thomas Mandzik and sister Carol Mandzik. Visitation will be on Saturday, February 23, 2013 from 12-2pm at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel, NJ. The Memorial Service will begin at 1:30.
