I am very sorry I couldn't be there for the service. I am so grateful to be able to have see him one last time in the Fall. I hear the service was lovely. I lit a candle for Bill in St. Mary's Cathedral in Killarney last week. I hope everyone is doing okay. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Freda and Family, We are saddened by Bill's death. Our prayers are with you and your beautiful family in this time of grief. Bill was always so kind and friendly to us. We will always remember the Ireland trip you and Bill organized in 1997. Hearing the hymn to Our Lady of Knock at today's funeral brought back fond memories of when Fr. Griswold offered Mass and we sang at that wonderful shrine. We will miss Bill's friendly smile. May God bless you and yours with strength and courage in the days ahead. Love and prayers,

His love for his wife, family, and others was so eloquently displayed. During our short visit, he made us feel like we were a special part of the family. What a beautiful gift and legacy. Every once in a while a man comes along that shows you how to live. He loves his God and his family. He is loyal to his friends. He is honorable in all of his dealings. He knows how to have a good time. In addition, this man shows you how to die. Fighting to the end with dignity, never complaining and keeping a sense of humor. I am proud to call this man my good friend!

To the O'Doherty Family, It is with deep sadness to learn of Bill's passing today. He was as decent a man as God ever placed on this earth; a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a man of deep religious conviction, had a great love of his adopted country and possessed a sense of humor that made everyone in his company smile. Bill will be long remembered and held in the highest esteem by his friends at the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of the Jersey Shore. He was the class of the organization. I will personally cherish the fond memories of Bill O'Doherty! Bob Curley
