Obituary of Joseph DeMaio
Joseph DeMaio, 94 of Manahawkin, NJ, went to be with the Lord on Thursday May 9, 2019.
Joe was born in New York City and lived in Brooklyn for many years before building his home in Manahawkin. He was one of fifteen children. Joe was the owner and operator of DoRite Plumbing in Brooklyn. He was a licensed plumber in both NY and NJ. Prior to opening his own plumbing company, he was a supervisor for many years at Duo Plumbing. He also built homes in Bronx, NY as well as his family homes in Brooklyn and eventual retirement home in Manahawkin. Joe taught many members of his family the plumbing trade – brothers and nephews as well as friends.
Joe’s enjoyment was cooking for his family and friends. Everything he made was delicious. He will be remembered for his pizza, chicken cutlets and macaroni dishes. He enjoyed fishing, crabbing and clamming. Joe was an avid New York Mets fan. He also enjoyed singing and playing traditional hymns on his harmonica. He was very bold in his faith – never ashamed to share the gospel. Family and friends would call upon him to pray for their family members. Joe faithfully prayed on his knees three times a day. He attended Calvary Tabernacle Church in Brooklyn, NY as a Deacon and Trustee. He served the church for many years.
Joe was pre-deceased by his wife Fay Costanza DeMaio in 2014 and his son Joseph DeMaio, Jr. Joe and Fay were married for 67 years. They were a great team cooking and caring for others.
