Obituary of Vera Y. Chen
Vera Yuh-Zong Chen, 78, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 16th at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. She was born in Tainan, Taiwan and lived in Lincroft, NJ for 38 years.
In 1962, Vera came to the United States to complete her doctoral graduate studies at Polytechnic Institute in Brooklyn Heights, NY. It was there that she met her future husband and earned her Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry. Vera worked as an AP Chemistry and Physics teacher at Holmdel High School for 32 years until her retirement in 2005.
Vera was the best mother and grandmother anyone could ask for. She was selfless, loving, nurturing, generous, and hardworking. She found great joy in spending time with her grandchildren and had a passion for teaching and tutoring students Chemistry, which she continued to do in the months leading up to her death.
Vera is survived by her loving children and their spouses, Andrew and Katherine Chen and Philip and Carol Dudt. She is also survived by her cherished grandchildren, Aaron Chen, Jasmine Chen, Miya Dudt, and Cailana Dudt, as well as many extended family members. She was predeceased by her husband, Professor Hung Tsung Chen, and her grandson, Caden Dudt.
Family and friends are welcome to gather on Thursday, December 20th for the visitation which will take place from 12 PM until the memorial service at 1:30 PM at Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel.
