Obituary of James Edward Garrigan
James E. Garrigan, Jr., 87, of Carolina Shores, NC passed away at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune on Wednesday, June 17, 2015. Born in Maplewood, Jim resided with his young family in Holmdel, NJ for many years before moving to Red Bank. In 2002, he relocated to Carolina Shores where he owned a home on a golf course. Jim returned to New Jersey only a couple of weeks ago to spend his final days near his son. Jim proudly graduated from Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ where he was the editor of the year book 'The Galleon'. He served in the U.S. Army during the end of World War II and in recent years participated in many civic organizations for veterans. Jim wore many hats over the years and was a successful entrepreneur, actor, athlete, and politician. He enjoyed nothing more than sharing a drink with friends at the the 19th hole after a round of golf. However, his greatest joy in life was his surviving son, Jim the third. In recent years, Parkinson's Disease took its tole, forcing Jim to give up many of the activities he loved. He fought hard against the disease and never complained, in spite of the difficulties it caused him. Jim was predeceased by his parents, James Edward and Gertrude Garrigan; his beloved son Thomas James; and his former wife, Marion Garrigan, with whom he will be interned. He is survived by his son James Edward Garrigan, III and his wife Amy, of Point Pleasant, NJ; three grandchildren, James Garrigan of Austin, TX; and Tara and Shaye Garrigan of Savannah, GA; and his brother Jack and his wife, Ayla, of Calabash, NC. Burial will be a private graveside ceremony on Friday, June 26, 2015. However, Jim and Amy Garrigan will be accepting visitors at their home, Friday evening beginning at 6 pm. We are casually celebrating a life well lived, by a tough man who hid his pain, was fiercely proud, and fought for his independence until the end. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Michael J.
