Obituary of Doris Anne Reed Durrua
Doris Anne Reed Durrua, age 74, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 19th 2012 at the Bayshore Health Care Center, in Holmdel where she has been a patient since June, 2011. Doris was born November 1, 1937 on Staten Island, the daughter of William Aitkins Reed and Pauline Detmar Reed. She lived in Port Richmond, Staten Island until 1945 when her family moved to Cranford. She graduated from Cranford High School in 1955. Doris attended Douglas College for Women in New Brunswick majoring in mathematics. She was employed as a Research Assistant in the Research Department of the New Jersey Bell Telephone Laboratory at Murray Hill, New Jersey. Doris was an avid gardener and musician. She loved playing the piano classics on her baby grand piano, and later on her beloved Lowrey organ where she could be found every afternoon with her favorite song books. Doris was passionate about her sewing, especially needlepoint and quilting, producing many beautiful pieces. She loved travelling to Keepsake Quilting in Center Harbor, New Hampshire to buy fabrics available nowhere else, stopping along the way to lovingly shop for new outfits for her cherished grandchildren. Doris adored her furry best friend, her little Yorkshire Terrier 'Ben' who could usually be found on her lap. She was preceeded in death by her parents William and Pauline Reed. Doris was also predeceased by her older brother William Reed who died in 1996 and her younger brother Paul Reed who died in 2002. Surviving are her loving family; her husband of 53 years Donald Allen Durrua of Colts Neck; her son Robert Durrua of San Marcos, California and his wife Mary Lynn and granddaughter Kelle; her daughter Elizabeth Durrua Lindner of Brewster, New York and her husband Scott and granddaughter Kathryn; her son U.S.Navy Command Master Chief Edward Durrua of Oakdale, Connecticut and his wife Dana and grandson Matthew; her sister-in-law Joyce Reed of Cincinnati, Ohio; her sister- in- law Norma Durrua of Chadwick Beach, New Jersey; and nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at the Holmdel Funeral Home 26 – South Holmdel Road, Holmdel, on Thursday June 21, 2012 from 2 to 4PM and 7 to 9 PM . The funeral service will be at the funeral home on Friday at 10:00AM. Interment will then follow at the Holmdel Cemetery, 900 – Holmdel Road, Holmdel.
