Obituary of James F. McNamara

James F. McNamara, former 40 year resident of Aberdeen, passed away on February 17, 2012 at the age of 91. For the last ten years he lived in The Villages retirement community in Lady Lake, Florida. He was predeceased by his wife Kathleen in 1997, as well as by his brothers John & Thomas, and sisters Catherine McCarthy & Ann Mooney. He is survived by his son Patrick & his wife Kimberly of Aberdeen; his daughter Mary Kate Dillon & her husband Thomas, also of Aberdeen; his five grandchildren, Heather & Thomas Dillon, and James, Emma and Connor McNamara; by his sister Helen Guididas of Westfield NJ; and by numerous nieces and nephews and relatives both here and in Ireland. Mr. McNamara was born and raised in Elizabeth NJ, graduating from St. Patrick's High School in 1938. He was employed by American Cyanamid until the outbreak of World War Two. Following his enlistment he was assigned to the Army Air Corps. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the Eighth Air Corps, 453rd Bomb Group, 732 Squadron stationed at Old Buckenham in England, flying missions on B-24's in Europe. Following his honorable discharge in October 1945, he went to work at the Exxon Refinery in Elizabeth NJ, where he held various positions until his retirement in 1983. He was a past member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and a member of the Knights of Columbus in Elizabeth. In the 1960's and 1970's he served as a coach and league director in the (then) Matawan Township Little League baseball organization. He was an avid golfer and a devoted fan of the New York Giants. A funeral gathering will be held on Saturday, February 25 at the Holmdel Funeral Home 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel from 9:00 to 10:30AM. A Funeral Mass will follow at St. Benedict R.C. Church at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in his memory to the Matawan Aberdeen Babe Ruth League, c/o Bob Kakoleski, Treasurer, 8 Invar Way, Aberdeen NJ 07747.
