Obituary of John T. Brockwell

John T. Brockwell, Jr., 74, of Holmdel died Friday August 26, 2011 at Bayshore Community Hospital. John was a recipient of a heart transplant in 2000 and a kidney transplant in 2010 and persevered through a host of medical issues for many years. Born in Hoboken, NJ, he moved to Lincroft in the mid 50's and graduated from Middletown High School in 1956. He attended the University of Miami where he enjoyed trips to Cuba and the Fontainebleau Hotel. He moved to Holmdel in 1963 where he remained a resident. John enjoyed coaching local youth baseball. He became involved with HYAA in the early '80's and continued his coaching in Middletown (BYAA) in 1986 where he coached his first of two state championship teams in 1987. In 1991, he coached an AAU state championship team with the Bayshore Baseball Club, a traveling team he co-founded. John continued to coach summer league baseball through 1995 when he left baseball to pursue more time with his family. He also enjoyed the race track and traveling to Florida. He was predeceased by his wife and high school sweetheart for almost 50 years, Abbie W. Brockwell and his parents, John and Elizabeth Brockwell. He is survived by his children Abbie and Bob Small of Locust, Alicia Brockwell of Los Angeles, California, John and Amanda Brockwell of Little Silver and his grandchildren Rob, Chris and Elizabeth Small and Graham Brockwell. A private family burial was held at Glenwood Cemetery, West Long Branch. Donations to the Heart Transplant Fund In Memory of John T.
