Veteran - United States Marine Corps Robert George Gandy, (Capt. Bob), 79, of Holmdel passed away on Monday, March 30th at Bayshore Community Hospital. Born in Perth Amboy, he resided in Sayreville prior to moving to Holmdel in 1960. He attended St. Mary's High School, class of 1954, in Perth Amboy. He served two years in the U.S. Marine Corps. Upon discharge he joined the E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Co. in Linden, N.J. where he worked as a shift supervisor for 31 years. Upon his retirement he joined West Marine in Perth Amboy as an Electronic Sales Representative. He was a member of St. Benedict R.C. Church in Holmdel, the Raritan Yacht Club in Perth Amboy, Knights of Columbus Council #426 South Amboy, and the John Basilone #190 Detachment American Legion, Post 25, Milltown, N.J. He was predeceased by his parents George Gandy and Theresa Pittel Gandy, by a sister in law Joanne Gabel Thompson, and by a nephew David Gandy. Surviving are his wife of 56 years Rose Marie Gabel Gandy, sister Evelyn Kennedy and her husband James of Ocala, FL., brother Richard Gandy and his wife Elizabeth of Pocono Pines, PA., brother in law Dennis Thompson and his wife Carol Ann of Skillman, N.J., and many nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews. Robert was an avid sportsman who loved fishing and hunting and raced competitively in sailing regattas. He attended many Olympic Games and Americas Cup races. He will be fondly remembered for the many experiences he shared with his nephews Michael and Mark, and his cousin Steven. Visitation will be at the Holmdel Funeral Home 26 – South Holmdel Road, Holmdel, N.J. on Monday April 6th, 2015 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10:00AM Tuesday April 7th at St. Benedict R.C. Church, 165 Bethany Road, Holmdel. Entombment will then follow at the Holmdel Cemetery, 900 Holmdel Road, Holmdel.
