Gertrude M. O'Brien, 95, of Toms River, passed away at her home on Monday morning, June 30, 2014. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she lived in Dumont, N.J. and then Ormond Beach, Florida for 24 years before returning to Toms River 4 years ago. She was an avid reader, and was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Brendan's R.C. Church, in Ormond Beach, FL. Mrs. O'Brien was very social, and she became a dear friend to all those who knew her. She was predeceased by her husband James J. O'Brien in 2008, by her twin sister Adelaide Teahan, and by two brothers Joseph and William Kress. She is survived by her son Robert O'Brien, son John O'Brien and his wife Bonnie, son Timothy O'Brien and his wife Phyllis, her daughter Eileen Sparacino and her husband Charles, son James O'Brien and his wife Susan, a daughter Laraine Tisserand and her husband Jeffrey, and by 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Mrs. O'Brien was a loving and beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is dearly missed by her family and by her friends. Visitation will be today, Wednesday July 2nd from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 – South Holmdel Road, Holmdel, N.J. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Thursday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Leo the Great R.C. Church, Hurleys Lane at Newman Springs Road, Lincroft, NJ Interment will then follow at the Rockland Cemetery, Sparkill, N.Y.
