Obituary of John Joseph McGowan
Korean War Veteran John Joseph McGowan – Mr. McGowan, 84, passed away on April 8, 2013. John graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx, NY. He earned a B.S.E.E. from New York University and a MBS through AT&T's Executive Master's Program. John served in the Korean War with the United States Navy as an Electronics Technician from 1949 to 1953. He had a 35 year career with the Bell Telephone Company at Bell Laboratories, New York Telephone, AT&T and Bell Communications Research, where he retired in 1989. He spent his retirement as a doting grandfather and tinkering with his sailboat, At Last. John was predeceased by his wife Doris in 2006; John and Doris celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2003. He leaves behind four children and two sons-in-law, Donna McCarthy of Arlington, VA; Elizabeth and Richard Kautz of Pelham, NY; Joan and Ken Savoia of Holmdel, NJ; and John J. McGowan, Jr. of Allentown, PA; and five grandchildren, Christine, Daniel, Shannon, Sean, and Frances. Visitation will be held Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9PM at the Holmdel Funeral Home 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday 10:30AM at St. Ambrose R.C. Church, 96 Throckmorton Lane, Old Bridge, NJ. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund at www.ocrf.org
