Obituary of Sophie C. Shallis

Sophie Camille Shallis, 85,  passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2020, surrounded by her family. She was born to George A Kirshy and Victoria Nasser Kirshy on May 8th, 1935, and was raised in Brooklyn, New York.

Sophie graduated from Prospect Heights High School with honors and a full scholarship to the Fashion Institute of Technology. At this time she was proud to be the President of the Eddie Fisher Fan Club. After high school she took a summer job at Alexander Smith in New York City where she met the love of her life Lawrence Thomas Shallis of Jersey City, New Jersey. They married in 1956 and settled in Brooklyn to start their lives together and by 1966 they had four children. Along with raising their children, Sophie and Larry started a business and worked side by side until retirement.

Sophie was no stranger to a home full of family and friends. She was a devoted daughter, sister, niece, cousin, sister-in-law, aunt, wife, mother, godmother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, and neighbor.  She was a second mother to everyone and always welcomed all into her home with open arms. Sophie loved dinners with her family and friends, and all loved her cooking. Even though she loved cooking, she was always ready to eat out at her favorite restaurants with family and friends.

Sophie had a gift for decorating and took pride in her home and her family. She was an expert shopper and enjoyed her beautiful shoe collection. She enjoyed trips to Atlantic City and vacations with her family. She enjoyed playing all games with friends and family as well as being an avid card player.

Rest Peacefully, you will forever be in our hearts.

Sophie is predeceased by her husband Lawrence Thomas Shallis, her sister Lila Behmke, her brothers Mitchell, Richard, Henry, and Nicholas Kirshy.
