dear family,
our condolences to you and yours from frese family, amsterdam.
Theo was a remarkable man. I have been your fathers nephew for 50 years, and we do share some resemblance. My mother mixes up our names, still, calling me theo at times, like today.
Theo visited my room as a teenager, saw my guitar and asked what I played. I hit the distortion and played punk-noise. He listened and after I was done, took the guitar and told me this is what I play, honey suckle rose...
Did he ever change his mind on anything? Think not, but sure did like the discussion. I can only hope he was happy with how things were the last years, then at least it was good for something.
Learn to fix things, else you be paying an arm and a leg, especially when you have a family. I am fixing more and more, but will never be as technical as he was. We are both physicists and he send me his own personal theory of everything.
Well, it kept him busy. He also send it to other scientists, the remark he got was, maybe start reading a textbook first.
He smiled, as he could appreciate such harsh feedback. He made a mean Manhattan, and we drank it on the deck, after cleaning the lot, including removing the carpet he used to practice golf. He was one of a kind, he loved children including mine,
he did whatever he wanted, he was stubborn, he never threw away anything. He chaperoned my mother when they were young and she wanted to go to a party. They lived through world war 2 in Indonesia, he couldnt live in Holland afterwards.
He moved to the US, worked at the most important physics institute in the world, he lived a whole and full life. I will never forget him.
In loving remembrance,
raoul and family,
Amsterdam
The Netherlands
