Obituary of Josephine Asaro
Josephine Asaro, born in NYC on December 28, 1929 passed away at 89 years old on December 16, 2019 surrounded by her children and family.
Josephine, better known as Jo or Josie was the loving wife to her late husband Raymond Asaro, Mother to her children - Sal, Nick, Raymond, and Rosemarie, Mother-in-law to Ellee, Linda, Debbie, Al and her late son-in-law, Richard. She was a sister to Marie and a Grandmother to her 12 grandchildren and Great-Grandmother (GG) to her 13 great grandchildren. Jo wore many hats, but none suited her better than the crown, as she was a true matriarch and queen. She was and is a pillar of strength, compassion and love.
Our memories of Jo are endless. She was a friend to talk to, a truth teller, and a comedian with her quick wit and famous sayings. She enjoyed cooking giant feasts for her family and gathering around the kitchen table to enjoy some of her signature dishes - chicken cutlets, fried shrimp, and meatballs to name a few. Dinner was almost always followed with a family card game and if BINGO was a national sport, Jo would be in the hall of fame.
In addition to all of the memories that we share with Jo, what her family and friends will remember most is the way she made them feel. There was never a birthday that passed without a hand written card or a milestone that went unnoticed without a phone call or text message. Speaking of text message, never did there exist a more technologically savvy older woman. Her grandchildren were particularly impressed by this skill of hers and utilized daily Facetimes to keep in touch and share special moments.
Josephine lived most of her life in Staten Island, New York followed by many years in West Palm Beach, Florida. Most recently she relocated up North to Shrewsbury, New Jersey to be closer to her family.
She will live in our hearts forever. Until we meet again...
