Obituary of Charles Richard Healy
Charles Richard Healy, born May 22, 1934 in Worcester, MA, recently of Red Bank, NJ passed away peacefully on July 22, 2019.
Charlie was predeceased by his daughter, Anne Louise Healy; his parents, Harry & Marion Healy; and his brother, Russell Healy.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 63 years, Louise T. (Briden) Healy; his children, Susan Barschow (James), William Healy (Corinne), Caroline Nicotera (Joseph) and Thomas Healy (Rebecca); his grandchildren, Emily Nicotera Slachetka (Matthew), Charles Nicotera (Jenna), Olivia Nicotera, Andrew Nicotera, Margaret Barschow Blissenbach (Seth), CJ Healy, and Jennie Healy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Affectionately known to all as Charlie, he was loved by all he met and knew throughout his 85 years. He was a loving and charitable person who gave selflessly to all and offered his experience, encouragement and assistance in any way he could provide. He was a faithful communicant of St. Catharine’s parish in Holmdel, NJ.
Charlie and Louise met in 1949 and were married in 1956, both from the Worcester, MA area. Charlie and his bride moved to NYC in 1956 after graduating from Worcester Polytech Institute with a degree in Civil Engineering. He began his first career with Ebasco Services International (now Raytheon) on Bridge Construction and Design.
When he retired from Raytheon in 1995, Charlie was in Project Management for Nuclear and Hydroelectric power plants. He then spent the next ten years as the Business Manager at St. Catharine’s Church, Holmdel, NJ. Upon his retirement from St. Catharine’s Church, Charlie became involved at his home of Shadow Lake Village on various committees. He played golf where he enjoyed camaraderie and fellowship with his teammates. Charlie and Louise were great entertainers and community gatherers.
Charlie’s experience and expertise brought him to visit 85 countries throughout his life including walking on the Great Wall of China, touring the Great Egyptian Pyramids of Egypt, and riding the Gondolas of Venice.
Charlie and his family had the wonderful experience of living in Manila, Philippines and Sydney, Australia during his years as a Civil Engineer, always calling Middletown, NJ home.
Charlie reached the rank of Captain in the Army Corp of Engineers. He trained at Ft. Belvoir, VA where he spent his years as a Reservist, retiring prior to the Vietnam Conflict. He also served as a Boy Scout leader for many years.
Charlie could light up a room with his graciousness and kindness, making everyone feel at home and comfortable. He was an excellent communicator and had a story or quip for every occasion. Charlie will be remembered as a hard worker, devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and friend. He leaves behind a large extended family and network of friends who will miss him dearly.
Rest in the Loving Arms of the Lord, dearest Charles, you have lived a full and wonderful life. Well done, thou good and faithful servant. Well done.
Visitation is Wednesday, July 31st 4:00 – 8:00 pm at Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel. Mass of Christian Burial is Thursday, August 1st 10:00 am at St. Catharine’s RC Church, 108 Middletown Road, Holmdel. Entombment to follow at St. Gabriel’s Mausoleum, 549 County Road 520, Marlboro, NJ.
