Obituary of Thomas J. Nolan
Thomas J. Nolan, Jr., entered eternal rest on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at the age of 92. Tom was predeceased by his former wife, Audrey, two sons John and Brooks and his daughter Cheryl Meehan. He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Teresa; a son Thomas J. Nolan III and his wife Rhonda, Mooresville, NJ and their two sons Ian and Jeremy Nolan; a daughter Marcy Nolan, Fort Lauderdale, FL; a sister Tony Starr, Bryn Mawr, PA; a son Robert W. Doherty Jr. and his wife Karen, a son-in-law Edward Meehan and five grandchildren Bobby and Kelsey Doherty, Tommy Meehan and Addie and Dylan Nolan. Born in Englewood, NJ, he graduated from the Englewood School for Boys in 1941, where he later went on to serve as President of their Board of Trustees. He attended Cornell University and at the end of his sophomore year left to join the Naval Aviation V-5 program. He earned his wings as a commissioned aviator in 1944 and transferred to the Marines as a fighter pilot and saw action during WWII all throughout the Pacific while stationed on Okinawa. In 1952, he served as a Captain, flying Marine Corp helicopters during the Korean War. A resident of Alpine, NJ for many years he was active on the Mayor and Council as the Police Commissioner as well as President of the Board of Education. In business Tom was the President and owner of Precast Concrete Corporation which he sold in 1980 and went to become the General Manager of a Saudi Arabian construction company for four years overseeing the manufacturing and erection of 1000 precast concrete homes for the Saudi Government. Tom was very active in and enjoyed being a part of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church community in Colts Neck, NJ. Visitation will be held Friday Feb. 26th, from 1 pm to 3 pm at Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 S. Holmdel Rd. A funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday Feb. 27th at Noon at the St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 1 Phalanx Road, Colts Neck. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
