Dear Lisa & Michael,
My deepest condolences go out to you and your family for your loss. Although I didn't know Alex personally, reading from the posted shared memories and his life story, it is evident that he was a fine young man and left an indelible mark on those who did.
Much love,

Mike, Lisa, Maddie and Ethan, I am sending you all love and I will be holding you in my prayers. Mike, I will never forget meeting you around 15 years ago and commenting on how over qualified it seemed you were for the job. You said that sometimes in life things happen and we repriorotize. That statement and your support and love for Alex (and Lisa, Maddie and Ethan) has always inspired me to spend just a bit more time with the family and to cherish every minute. Just know you were the perfect dad to him. I’m so sorry for all of your loss. Love, Angie Dalton

Alex lives on in our hearts forever. We can only continue living by keeping Alex in every minute. Now Alex will be our beacon of illumination for daily concerns. His modest style shows us clarity for figuring things out. His wit makes us smile. He found answers by himself to life’s mysteries. He discovered that being true to oneself was necessary.
All my best LOVE,

I’m so sorry for your loss. If this can be comforting to you, just know that he is no longer suffering (Ecclesiastes 9:5) and now he, as well as others who have died, awaits the wonderful resurrection that Jehovah God has promised (Acts 24:15). I hope this message brings you comfort.

Deepest Condolences from the Inglis Family
Alex was a unique, resourceful , young man , who embraced life head on. His journey was not an easy one, yet, he seemed undaunted by the challenges that most people, would have struggled with. He left an impression on everyone who met him, showing kindness, courage and wisdom beyond his years. We are grateful to have known and watched him grow throughout the years. Heartfelt prayers and thoughts are with the Ching family during this most difficult time.

I’m so very sorry for this tragic loss. Alex was a true remarkable person and I only remembered him as a shining light in the halls of Holmdel High School. I was the President of the Student Advisory Board a couple years before him. Through SAB I had the pleasure to know him for a breif part of his life. Though brief, it was a true honor to know him and have interacted with him. My deepest sympathy to you and all of his loved ones. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.

Alex Ching (middle) passed away Christmas morning. He joined the Raymond James family in 2016 after graduating from Duke. His father (Mike) works at a competitor and introduced me to Alex as he was seeking employment as a Research Associate. We hired Alex based on his strong character and passion for our business, and despite some academic issues that we learned were due to battling lifelong illness.
Alex was inflicted with a rare form of cancer as a child. I don’t know the details of the cancer nor his struggle throughout his life. What I do know is that he came to work every day he could muster strength, and he was amazingly productive. He worked for one of our most demanding analysts and earned rave reviews. Even when he needed to take time off for treatment, he insisted on working from home. Work was another form of therapy for Alex. Our profession is incredibly demanding for healthy people, and I will never forget the passion, dedication and tenacity that Alex embodied as he battled for his life.
A year ago, Alex came to our NY holiday party after undergoing treatment. He did not look well, but his smile and desire to be part of the team were truly infectious. He continued to battle throughout 2018, and moved to our biotech team after his previous analyst departed the firm. Alex knew nothing about biotech, which is the most technically sophisticated industry we follow. But you wouldn’t know it. He taught himself, worked tirelessly and made no excuses. His contributions were immeasurable and nobody would have known what he was going through if they didn’t meet him. His affinity for Biotech was likely driven by his own illness and search for answers.
Alex was on medical leave recently, but his spirits remained high. He was determined to come back to work full time in January. He always came back stronger after his treatments. We expected this time would be no different. That is, until I received a note from his father this morning that Alex passed away on Christmas.
For those of us who struggle, and we all do, remember Alex when you think of giving up. This kid was a winner. He never quit or made excuses, and he had plenty of reasons to do so. He always smiled, his attitude was incredible and he brought joy and inspiration to everyone with whom he interacted. Whenever I asked him how he was feeling, he just smiled and said “Ok”. He never complained. I could never have known how he really felt.
We work in a tough business, one that is demanding, tiring and often unforgiving. Yet Alex was a star despite battling a horrific illness. I am proud to say that Alex was a member of the Raymond James family. I will never forget Alex Ching. May he RIP.

Alex was part of the 1st class of RAs I helped recruit to Raymond James Equity Research. Alex and I quickly became friends and I always looked forward to his smile and big bear hugs when he would visit the St. Pete office. The following year, Alex and I went on a recruiting trip to Duke together where his passion for Equity Research was infectious. He had a line of students waiting to talk to him! My daughter shares a mutual love for Duke and during her junior year of high school last year, Alex arranged for Ashley to receive a Pratt School of Engineering tour. Alex and I planned to go back to Duke recruiting again in February, and we excitedly spoke of this just a few short weeks ago. Alex, although you won’t physically be there with me this time, your spirit will certainly shine through. My thoughts, prayers and condolences to the family.

I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with Alex for the past few months but in that short time he made a lasting impression. Alex will always be an inspiration for me based on his tremendous attitude and personality.
He gave me a funny "gag gift" when we had a particular success at work. It is a plastic helmet he ordered online that had very specific meaning, and he wrote the date of our success on the helmet. It is displayed on a shelf in my office and I plan on keeping it there always and cherishing it as a way of honoring Alex, honoring his leadership and way of connecting with others, and as an example to strive to.
I am grateful to have known him. Rest in Peace Alex.

To the members of the Ching family. Please except my condolences. I was shocked when Jerry called me to let me know that Alex had passed. Working with him I hardly even remembered he was sick. It never seemed to bother him, or maybe he just never let it show. He just seemed like a normal "kid". In my mind I guess I thought he had it beat. I'm glad to have had the privilege of knowing him in my life and wish things could have been different.

I remember when Alex was battling cancer when we were in the same class as little kids so long ago. I was so young but I remember thinking that he was one of the kindest classmates I had. He was also funny, calm and always smiling. It seemed like nothing was even wrong. I believe Alex was an angel on earth teaching us all he exemplified- strength positivity courage and happiness. Thank you Alex. To Alex’s family: please find comfort in knowing that your son/brother touched so many hearts and taught people lessons they will never forget even since they were 7 years old. ❤️❤️❤️ I pray for your peace and happiness. Rest easy Alex !

I’m so sorry to hear about the loss of your dear loved one. It’s very comforting to know what the Bible says about ones we’ve lost in death. Verses like Acts 24:15 are an excellent example of this: “And I have hope toward God, which hope these men also look forward to, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.” Knowing God’s promise that we’ll be reunited with our loved ones who have died is a promise that I hold dear to me. (John 5:28, 29) I know God’s Word can bring you hope & comfort too.

Dear Lisa: My sincere and deepest condolences to you and your family. I remember Alex attending Mass at St. Catharine’s sitting in front of me when he was 7 or 8 years old not looking too well. As a Substitute Teacher at Satz, I had Alex in many of my classes. He looked great, and he was a fantastic kid. I couldn’t believe he was the same sick little boy that I saw attending Sunday Mass each week. He had a very blessed life, albeit as short as it was. He accomplished so much more than many people do in a long lifetime. I remember you Lisa, subbing at Satz on a couple of occasions. You have a lot to be proud of in all that Alex succeeded in doing. I am very sorry for your loss!

Dear Ching Family,
Please accept my deepest condolences. Alex was a wonderful young man who in his short life made a meaningful contribution to all around him.
I had the pleasure of meeting and working with Alex for two years in his capacity as student representative to the Holmdel Board of Education. He served with distinction and took his responsibility quite seriously, including attending meetings of the Community Relations Committee, which I chaired at the time, in order to better understand how local government served its constituents. He always kept us on our toes as he was always more prepared than the rest of us and brought a fresh perspective. He really broke the mold on what the expectations for a student representative should be.
I’m sure others would add that Alex broke the mold of what it is to be a great son, brother, friend, … What a blessing to have known him for even a short time.
My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
Most sincerely,
Ana Caban-Vander Woude and family
