Obituary of Philomena J. Abbondante

Philomena Josephine (Beretta) Abbondante, 86, of Manalapan, NJ passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at her home.  Phyllis, as she was called by her family and friends, was born on a farm in Pennsylvania on February 1, 1932; she was the daughter of the late Victor and Justina (Rizzo) Beretta.

She was predeceased by her husband Carmine J. Abbondante.

Phyllis was a loving sister of the late Rachel J. Pallaci and her husband the late Vincent J. Pallaci; and of her surviving sister Mary Lou Laughlin and her husband Matthew Laughlin.

Phyllis is survived by her daughter Karen Lee (Abbondante) Bava and her husband John Bava; by her son Thomas Abbondante and his wife Heather deTroeyer; by her grandchildren Caralee (Bava) Grygo and her husband Adam, Daniel Bava and his wife Jessica, Hayley Bava, Hannah Bava, Julia Bava, Matthew Bava, Serena Abbondante and Dylan Abbondante; and by her great-grandchildren, Stella Grygo, Henryk Grygo and Cambria Bava; as well as by her Aunt Mary Critelli and by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other family.

Visitation will be on Saturday December 22 from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 S. Holmdel Road, Holmdel, NJ 07733.  A brief service will be held at Holmdel Funeral Home on Sunday December 23 at 10:00 a.m., followed by interment at 11;00 a.m. in Holmdel Cemetery, 900 Holmdel Road, Holmdel, NJ 07733.

In lieu of flowers, her family would prefer that donations be made in Philomena’s memory to the American Cancer Society.
