Obituary of Kathleen Pontone
Kathleen McCarron Pontone was born in her family home in Bayonne New Jersey on November 9, 1926. She died of cancer at age 90 after a long and happy life. She grew up with her Mother's whole family, in the family home. She attended Benedictine Academy and graduated from Good Council College at 19. She married Andre Pontone, a podiatrist, from a nearby Parrish in 1949. After a stint at WQXR, she began a family of 8 children. When her father brought a historic horse in Marlboro Township, his building Company Dan McCarron and Son, built two new houses on the farm for the Pontones and her brother John McCarron and his brood of 9. With her parents and Sister in the historic house, they lived in a blur of dogs, cats, horses, chickens, with a stray goat, turtle and at least one Hamster for many active years. She loved her children and extended family. She was an avid reader, beach goer and gardener. She entertained her children, her children's children and their friends seemingly without effort and always with a smiling welcome. Her husband died in 2000 and she carried on in the 'house my father built for me where my husband and I raised our children' on the farm until her death. She and her brother, John insisted that Golden Vale Farm be preserved forever for farmland preservation and this was done after her sister Marilyn's death in the early years of the new century. She is survived by her children Kathleen, Michael, Daniel, Andre William, Juliana, Jane Dunton, Marilyn and Barbara St. Ours. Her delight was her 19 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren who continued to visit her on the Farm until her death at home. Funeral services will be private.
