Obituary of Mary Ann Uglialoro
Mary Ann Uglialoro, 77, of Holmdel died at her home on Monday, July 23rd.
Mrs. Uglialoro was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. One of four children, Mary Ann was the first in her family to attend college, earning scholarships and working at DeNatale Brothers, her uncle’s Manhattan jewelry store, to pay her way through school. She graduated from Hunter College in Manhattan with degrees in Psychology and Education.
Mary Ann served as a public school elementary and middle school teacher for over 30 years in New York and New Jersey. “Mrs. U” cared for and educated her students in Red Hook, Brooklyn, Matawan, NJ, and Marlboro, NJ, where she taught until her retirement. In addition to her teaching career, Mary Ann opened and successfully ran Basics and Beyond, an enrichment, tutoring, and test preparation service, in 1986.
Most importantly, Mary Ann deeply loved her home and cherished her family and friends. Her house in Holmdel was the location of many joyful family and neighborhood gatherings. She loved to be the organizer of the events and outings that would bring everyone together, and that all would enjoy. Mary Ann lived a simple life full of abundant love, kindness, laughter, and joy that left a lasting impact on so many of those who met or knew her.
She is survived by her loving family: Joseph Uglialoro her husband of 49 years; her children, Adele Uglialoro, MD and her husband, Ken O’Flaherty of Madison, NJ and Joseph and Cathy Uglialoro of Cranford, NJ; four loving grandchildren, Robert O’Flaherty, Cecelia O’Flaherty, Joseph Uglialoro and Christopher Uglialoro; two brothers and their wives, Francis and Rosemary Cannavale, and Blase and Maryann Cannavale, as well as Janet Cannavale, wife of her deceased brother Vincent; and her many beautiful nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to visitation on Thursday, July 26th, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm, at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel. Mass of Christian Burial, Friday, July 27th, 10:30 am, St. Benedict RC Church, 165 Bethany Road, Holmdel, NJ. Interment will follow immediately after mass at Holmdel Cemetery, Holmdel.
