Obituary of Peggy Lasky
Peggy Lasky, age 75, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, surrounded by family.
From her birth in Hartford, on October 11, 1942 to her death on Saturday, she lived a life of love, laughter, and a strong commitment to her community. She was born in Connecticut to William and Elizabeth (Rickis) Kelly and was the middle child of her four siblings. By the age of seven, Peggy began volunteering in her community and would read to children at the local orphanage.
After graduating from high school, she attended the University of Hartford. Peggy married her husband, Bob, on August 21, 1965. The couple moved to New Jersey in 1965 and Peggy began her career in local politics in 1985. Peggy served on the Holmdel Township Committee and was Mayor of Holmdel for two terms. She was involved extensively in local politics and served on numerous committees and boards, including the NJ League of Municipalities, the Monmouth County Planning Board and the Improvement Authority of which she served as Vice-Chair.
Peggy loved mentoring young women entering politics and was always answering calls and giving advice. She was presented with numerous awards for her service, including the Woman of Achievement Award and Woman of the Year. Her greatest political accomplishment was hosting the New Jersey Conference of Mayors, that was attended by 150 mayors to discuss municipal tax burdens. In recognition of this achievement, Governor Whitman appointed Peggy to the Women's Business Advisory Committee.
Left to honor Peggy and remember her love are her husband of 52-years, Bob, two children, Rob Lasky and Jessica Lasky; her sisters, Betty (Kelly) Tretiak and Kathy (Kelly) Cadoret, and her brother Robert Kelly. Peggy will be remembered as an inspiration and political pioneer in the various communities she served. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 10 at 10:15 am at St. Catharine's Church, 108 Middletown Rd., Holmdel. Burial will follow at Holmdel Cemetery, 900 Holmdel Rd. The family will greet friends from 3:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, May 9 at the Holmdel Funeral Home,26 S. Holmdel Rd. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Peggy’s name to the Holmdel PBA and Holmdel First Aid.
