Obituary of Michael S. Lombardi
Veteran of the U.S.Army Air Corps, having served in World War II Michael S. Lombardi of Matawan, NJ, 90, passed away at home on Wednesday, March 4, 2015. Born in the Bronx, he lived in NJ for many years before retiring to Las Vegas in 1986. He returned to NJ this past summer to be closer to his family. Mr. Lombardi served in WWII as Sergeant, Medical Section in the 610th Army Air Forces Base Unit. After being discharged, he earned a Bachelor's Degree from Fordham University in Business Administration. He worked as an X-Ray technician during and after the war and later became an advertising executive and then a business owner with his brother, Robert. He adored his family and loved to socialize with his friends. He was one of the first in his generation to embrace technology and email communication for everything from organizing a family football contest to sparking a lively political debate. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elsie, as well as his 3 children, Nicholas Lombardi & his wife Mary Jane, Michele Caputi and her husband, Pat, and Diane Mengersen and her husband John, 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. A visitation will be held on Sunday, March 8 at Holmdel Funeral Home in Holmdel, NJ, from 3pm to 5pm. A funeral Mass will be offered on Monday, March 9 at 10am at St. Leo the Great RC Church in Lincroft, NJ. He will be interred at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery in NJ. In lieu of sending flowers, the family would appreciate a donation to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in his name.
