Obituary of Luigi Palazzolo
Luigi 'Gino' Palazzolo, born January 16th, 1937 in Cinisi, Sicily, passed away September 12th, 2013 . He was the son of Ottavio & Anna Palazzolo. He immigrated with his parents and siblings to New York from his native Sicily in 1955 with a dream for a better life, as his father promised would be found in 'America.' Hard, laborious work did not distract his focus. In the construction industry, he was considered to be the hardest worker. There are countless commercial & residential buildings, shopping plazas, offices, stores, homes, & farms that have been constructed & shaped by the passionate work of Gino Palazzolo. In 1962 he married Concetta Damiano. As his family grew they moved from Staten Island N.Y. to Colts Neck, N.J. He was finally able to develop and embrace his passion for horses, a dream previously left behind in his native Sicily. He owned and trained countless standard bred horses and became an accomplished harness trainer and driver. There were numerous prized races that he won as an owner, driver, and trainer for the winning horses that earned him the title 'double 'Z' man'. Gino Palazzolo is survived by his wife, 4 children, 10 grandchildren, 3 sisters , a brother, numerous nieces, nephews, and countless friends. Gino Palazzolo will forever be missed as a father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend and business associate. He was a man of few words, but he had a tremendous work ethic to his last days. It was never too late or too early for him to see a job done to completion. Visitation will be held at the Holmdel Funeral Home 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel, New Jersey, on Tuesday evening 7–9 PM and Wednesday 2-4PM and 7-9PM. A Mass of Christian Burial Mass will be offered at The Church of the Holy Child 4747 Amboy Road, Staten Island, on Thursday at 1 PM. Entombment will be at the Cemetery of the Resurrection, 361 Sharrott Avenue, Staten Island.
