To the family of Mrs. Laffey: Please accept my condolences for your loss. I was saddened to read about someone who left this life so soon after devoting so many years to her honorable profession. One can only hope she received as much gratification as those of us who benefitted from her teaching. I attended Lafayette from 1955-1957 and still remember the most beautiful teacher in the school (on the 2nd floor in the corner classroom) who always had a nice thing to say about people. I find it a shame that I moved to Holmdel in 1980 just down the road from St Leo and was unaware that I could have said hello and expressed my thanks for the impression she made on a certain junior high schooler. May you take solice in knowing that she added to the lives of all of us who learned from her kindness and understanding. With deepest sorrow,

To all the members of Mrs. Laffey's Family, My name is Karen McClelland and I was the third of three sisters to be taught by Mrs. Laffey at St. Leo's (Maureen was in my sister Mary's class). I graduated in 1984, and my class first knew Mrs. Laffey as a Science teacher. We couldn't believe it when she then became an English teacher! What did she know about English, we thought? Of course she was a wonderful teacher and she delighted in her subject and in her students. I remember so often a student would start to speak and she would say, "wait a minute, I can't hear you without my glasses on." That always struck me as so funny and I never understood what she meant until I finally needed glasses myself! Your mother had a wonderful, ready smile and was a great gift to so very many young people. May the joy she brought to others be a comfort to you now. God bless you all, Karen (Krugh) McClelland

To the family of Mrs. Laffey, Mrs. Laffey was my language arts and homeroom teacher last year in 8th grade, and I have never experienced such a loving and caring human being, let alone teacher like Mrs. Laffey. She taught me so much information that will help me in my near future. She prepared all of us so well for high school, let alone college. She will continue to stay in my prayers, and live in my heart, forever, and ever. with love and memories, Adam Spengler Class of '05

Maureen and Regina, please let me express my deepest condolences. You don't know me but I was a student of your Mother's from 1958-1960 at Lafayette. I lost my own Mother in the ninth grade, two weeks before graduation, and your Mom and Mrs. O'Neill were there for me the whole time. She was a wonderful educator and a terrific, compassionate woman who helped me through a horrific time in my life. I have tried to find her for years, and I am so sorry it had to be this way. She touched so many of our lives. You were so lucky to have her - and again, my sincerest condolences on your loss. Marilyn

Mrs. Laffey was the kind of teacher who really made you think in between the lines. Looking back she taught me about 5 years ago and I still remember her calm, intelligent nature and witty sense of humor. She will be missed greatly. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family.

To the Family of Mrs. Laffey, Mrs. Laffey was my 8th grade English teacher during the 2000-2001 school year at St. Leo's. Throughout highschool, and even during my first year at college, I have been constantly reminded of all the things Mrs. Laffey taught us, and I am so thankful to have had such a wonderful teacher. I still think of her whenever I see a copy of "To Kill a Mockingbird" or sit down to write a term paper - thankful for having had a teacher that had the patience to teach us the correct way to write. Whenever I am having a bad day, I can still hear her singing, "Ya gotta accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative..." It still brings a smile to my face, as all my memories of Mrs. Laffey always will. My deepest condolences, Jessica Gartner St. Leo the Great Class of '01

Dear Regina & Maureen, I am so sorry that we cannot be there to give you all our love and support now when you need it most. Please know that we are with you, Kevin, Caitlin and Erin in our hearts and prayers. I have the best memories of the times we all spent at your house when we were kids. The times we spent at West Point Island with your Mom when she invited all the cousins down for the week. These are memories I will cherish forever. She even let me drive her car when I had just gotten my license! When I think of my Aunt Mary it will always be with a smile on my face and a warmth in my heart She was a wonderful person and we will miss her very much. You are all in our thought and prayers. Love, Eddie, Heidi, and the Boys

To the family of Mrs. Laffey - First, I would like to offer my condolences on the loss of your mother and grandmother. I know you don't know me, but in 1960-61, Mrs. Laffey was my 9th grade homeroom teacher in Lafayette Jr. High School. I was just coming into a public school after having been in a parachoial school for 8 years. I will never forget how comfortable she made me feel. Her kindness towards me and her beautiful smile is something that will remain with me forever. I remember how much the other kids in homeroom loved her and thought she was a 'neat' teacher. By the time the year had ended, I had grown to love her as well. Please know, that at this difficult time, you are all in my prayers. God Bless and thank you for letting me share. Fran (DeJohn) Getchies (from homeroom 9-210 Marquis de Lafayette Jr High Elizabeth, NJ Class of 1961)
