Obituary of Athanasia “Ethel” Paras
Ethel Paras passed away at Jersey Shore Medical Center on August 6. She was born in Weehawken, NJ and lived in Union City and Wallington before moving to Colts Neck in 1994. She was a bookkeeper for many years. She was actively involved in the WWII war effort and proud of her brothers who served overseas. Ethel was active in St. Nicholas Greek Orhodox Church, Wycoff, and later in Kimisis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church, Holmdel. She also regularly attended Colts Neck Reformed Church where she had many friends. Ethel was energetic and enthusiastic. She enjoyed outings with the CN Senior Citizen Club. She cared for many children in Colts Neck, where she is known as 'Yia Yia' throughout the town. She was an avid reader, enjoyed movies and music, and most of all loved to dance. Recently, she danced the night away at her 90th birthday celebration. Ethel was predeceased by her husband, Charles, and her brothers, James and Peter Poulos. She cherished her family and is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Peter and LiliAnn of Colts Neck, and George and Gayleen of Cape May Courthouse. She loved and was very proud of her grandchildren Alison, Brian, Christen, Grace and Matthew. Visitation will be at Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel, NJ on Thursday from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. The funeral will take place Friday at 10:00am at Kimisis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church, 20 Hillcrest Road, Holmdel, NJ. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to the CN Reformed Church Benevolence Fund, PO Box 57, Colts Neck, NJ, 07722, which assists area charities, would be appreciated.
