To Bills family, I want to express my deepest condolances to you all. I had the pleasure of serving with Bill in Afghanistan pretty much the whole time he was over there from Sept. 07-til i left in late Feb of 2008. I'm in the Air Force but also serve on the Special Operations side of the house. Bill was an awesome individual. I was proud to say that i was friends with him. Bill will truly be missed! I will never forget him. I have tons and tons of pictures that will help keep memory of him. All of Bill's family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Barbara & the entire Neil Family, It has taken me over a week to finally be able to put the words together to let you all know how much I hold you all close to my heart during this time of great loss for your family. Like Eric and Tara, I could probably go on forever about how much fun Billy was growing up and always friendly to his little sisters friends. Fairview Ave. in JC left us all great memories and Billy will be forever missed and never forgotten. Although we have not been in touch for many years I wish you all peace knowing that Billy meant a lot to many and thought of as a really great person. With Love, Lisa Murray-Williams lmurray12@hotmail.com

We traveled Europe together and lived in North Carolina together. We went out and grabbed Italian food every night. I have been gone the last two weeks and just now found out what happened. Neil Family, After this weekends events I thought I needed to address you as a family but was unsure of how or how I would get through it. So here it is.... This entire weekend was about Billy. His dedication to his family, friends and country ultimately sacrificing his life for what he believed in. However this weekend was a testament to the Neil family. It was a testament to your internal relationships and your external treatment of all the lives you have touched over the years. Internally, people got to see first hand the bond that ties all of you. Through good times and bad the Neil’s (Pat, Bill, Roni, Patti, Billy and Barbara) created a bond that can not be broken. Billy will always be with each of you. Externally, it showed how much you mean to people outside of your core family. Your loyalty to friends near and far, your caring ways and your ability to open your home and hearts to all you come in contact with was proven this weekend. Pat and Bill you are wonderful people and you raised amazing children. With my continued support, Maggie Vermeal and Family

I read your son’s obituary yesterday and I want to express my condolences. Although I never had the pleasure of meeting him, I felt a great sense of pride knowing that there are individuals in this world such as your son. It’s odd, but when you read of people like him, you want to attach yourself to them in one way or another. Be it the fact that I attended Catholic school, or had a Father in the Navy, you look for common ground to selfishly claim a kinship. I envy those who knew him personally, and I’m confident that there are hundreds or thousands of local residents who read his obituary yesterday and feel as I do. No matter your views on the war, it is reassuring to know that this great Country still has great Patriots such as Staff Sergeant William R. Neil Jr.

To the Neil family, I was Billy’s soccer coach and teacher at Hudson Catholic. He was one of the finest young men I’ve ever coached. He was unselfish as a person and unselfish as a player. He played fullback for me, and no one was tougher than Billy. Yet he smiled through it all. He was respectful, kind, and unwavering in his loyalty. He was the kind of boy any man would be proud to have as a son. That he gave his life for all of us is no surprise. Billy will always be a hero to me. He is the very best of America. I’m proud and grateful I had the chance to coach and teach him—and I will always treasure my freedom more, knowing the sacrifice he made to preserve it. Thank you for giving us Billy. While I never really knew him as an adult, I remember a gangly teenage boy, with a constant grin on his face. He thought everything was funny, and loved to laugh. I'm heartbroken for his family and will pray for them in this time of sorrow. They will all meet again in Heaven.

To The Family of Sgt. William R. Neil. I realize how difficult it is to run a democracy. In order to maintain it we must sacrifice our sons and daughters. I wish we had a choice. Someday we will but until that day we will continue to have heroes like your son who believed so much in our country and I know he would say to carry on our mission because he had a vision of a more peaceful and loving world. Your son and all the others are our angels and angels never die...Accept my deepest condolences as an American.

The Neil Family It is so nice to hear that so many people are involved in this guest book. Some people speak of Billy as a close friend a great person or a fine servicemen.I want to say he was like a brother to me,"But he was my Brother" He was the big brother I wish I had and I like to thing I am the little brother he never had. From his Converse sneakers"he loved" to his "66" Cheville, When we pulled the engion out of it in the rain and got oil all over Mrs Neils new driveway. From going for rides to Broadway in Bayone in his sisters "86" chevy or his Dads Olds 98 to hanging out on the block to all hours of the night talking about the future. Well I could go on and on, I just wanted to let everyone know that Billy realy was doing something he loved. The on thing I will never forget is what he told me when we were kids."Be the best at what you do or dont do it at all." I love You Bro Eric

I was very sad to read that our great country has lost another Airborne trooper. I lost a brother and my heart aches. I have also had a career on Wall Street. Even though I did not know William personally, William represented the finest tradition of the Airborne and from one Airborne trooper to the other I salute William and I will always remember William's sacrifice. I will be attending William's Funeral Mass in order to show my respect for a fellow Airborne trooper as well as for William's family. May God bless William and his family! There is no greater love than that for a fellow soldier. For God and Country! Airborne - All The Way! Sincerely yours, David R. Schmidt
