Obituary of Edward F. Stancik

May he rest in peace! Ed Stancik, passed away at home on Thursday, December 20th, 2012. Ed was born in Newark, N.J., raised in Kearney, N.J. and moved to Holmdel in 1968. A former Mobil Oil sales and marketing executive, he began his career as an Industrial Sales Trainee in 1955. Subsequently, he was appointed to various marketing positions and served as Industrial Area manager for New York State. He relocated to Kansas and was the Mid West Fleet Sales manager responsible for 13 states, as well as Mid-West Customer Services and Relations manager. He then returned to NYC as Assistant Lubricants Pricing Manager for the United States. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 47 years Eve (Eva) Barszczewski, a daughter Mary Anne, and sisters Ann Towney, Helen Kukla, and Eleanor Stancik. Surviving are his son Mark – Holmdel, daughter Lisa Stancik- Maryland, grandchildren Karolina and Eric Stancik – Maryland. Ed was a NYU graduate. He attended American University in Biarritz, France and Sorbonne University in Paris, France. Ed was a World War II Army veteran serving in Europe. He was the recipient of two battle stars, participated in the battles of Normandy and northern France. He was awarded the 'Liberation of France Medal' and 'NJ Distinguished Military Service Medal' and other citations. He also served in the occupation of Germany and was a VFW member of Post 5918 Holmdel. Ed's tremendous acts of service toward Holmdel's youth began in the late 60's as he went door to door collecting donations to pioneer Holmdel HYAA. Ed was the founder of Holmdel's girl basketball program and was a former member and President of Holmdel Schools Music Associataion where he chaired many fund-raising events to support the international travel of student musicians. His concern for the youth of Holmdel continued in retirement by serving for many years on the Holmdel Juvenille Conference Committee. His career related memberships include former member of the N.J.Oil Industry Committee (OIC), American General Contractors (AGC), Chamber of Commerce, Kansas City, MO., Senior Advisor to the National Junior Achievement Organization and public and Customer Relations speaker for Mobil Oil Corp. Ed personally enjoyed tracking the financial markets, traveling, fishing, gardening, and above all being with his family. He was a current member of St. Catharines Church, Holmdel and dates back as one of the original families who gathered for Mass at the Holmdel Village School until they could fund and build the current Church structure. He will be missed as a loyal, generous and respected family member and friend. Visitation will be at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 – South Holmdel Road, Holmdel, on Sunday from 2:30 to 5:30 PM and on Monday morning from 8:00 AM until 8:45 AM. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Catharines Church, 108 – Middletown Road, Holmdel at 9:15AM. Interment will then follow at Holmdel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to The Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675, to assist those service people wounded in the current wars.
