Obituary of Martin Owen Teevan
Martin Owen (Marty) Teevan, Perfect Gentleman, Arbitrageur Martin Owen Teevan of Holmdel, N.J. entered into eternal rest peacefully on July 4, 2015, 74 years from the day of his birth, with his devoted wife, four loving children and family at his side at the Brennan Pavilion of the Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, N.J. Born and raised in Newark, N.J., Marty was a proud graduate and supporter of his alma maters, his ever-dear St. Benedict's Preparatory School, Newark, class of 1959, and St. Peter's University, Jersey City, class of 1964. He served as a medic in the Army National Guard 1963-1969 and was honorably discharged. He wed his soulmate, best friend and love of his life, Elizabeth (Betty), his wife of nearly 49 years. For 12 years, they lived in Verona, N.J., where their precious children were born. They moved to Holmdel, N.J. 36 years ago. Marty began his illustrious career on Wall Street 51 years ago at Garvin Bantel Corporation trading stocks. For 25 years, he worked in Risk Arbitrage as a Vice President at Prudential Bache Securities, followed by his tenure at Robb Peck McCooey. Until his passing, he served as Senior Vice President at Monarch Capital Group in New York. He was a Director on the Board of First Indemnity of America Insurance Company in Parsippany, N.J. He was also an active proprietor of The Full Shilling Irish Pub and Restaurant in New York City. Martin was a parishioner of St. Catharine's Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel, N.J., and a member of The Irish Chamber of Commerce in New York and the Christian Brothers Academy Father's Club in Lincroft, N.J., where he was honored in 2013 for 30 years of participation. He was also a member of the Giblin Irish Association. Marty loved all things Irish, including music, frequent visits to the Galway Races and Sunday drives with Betty along the 'Irish Riviera' at the Jersey Shore. He enjoyed cars and horses, especially being in the Winner's Circle for Cavan Success and Sparksfly. He delighted in cheering on his grandchildren, who affectionately called him 'Grampy,' in all of their endeavors. He was a loyal fan of the New York Giants, the CBA Colts basketball team and his children's alma maters: Holy Cross, Villanova and Boston College. Ever the broker, he was also an avid viewer of CNBC. Marty had a quick wit, a sharp mind and a great work ethic. He had a warm, welcoming, encouraging and fun personality. He leaves behind a legacy of love, peace, kindness, compassion and respect for all. He was committed to strong family values and lifelong friends. These special memories we will keep etched in our hearts forever. We are heartbroken to lose his presence in our lives. We mourn the loss of an amazing and loving man, but remain grateful and blessed to have been a part of his life. Martin was predeceased by his parents, John Patrick Teevan (of County Cavan, Ireland) and Mary Ryan Teevan (of County Sligo, Ireland), and his in-laws, Robert and Elizabeth Sheehan. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife Elizabeth Anne (Sheehan) Teevan; the children he adored: Martin Owen Teevan, Jr. of Scottsdale, Arizona; Lisa Teevan Carey and her husband Robert of Chatham, N.J.; Christopher Ryan Teevan of Spring Lake Heights, N.J.; Michael Robert Teevan and his wife Erin of New York, N.Y.; his seven precious grandchildren: Grace, Paige and Quinn Teevan; Shannon, Ryan and Meegan Carey; and Holden Teevan; his dear brother John P. Teevan, Jr. and his wife Nuala of Holmdel, N.J.; his brother-in-law Robert W. Sheehan, Jr. of Atlantic Highlands, N.J.; and special nieces, nephews, cousins and godchildren.
