Obituary of Henry B. West
Henry B. West, 79, of Holmdel, NJ, died on Sunday, September 21, 2014. A Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Catharine's R. C. Church, 108 Middletown Road, Holmdel, on Thursday, Sept. 25th at 9:15 am. Burial will follow at Holmdel Cemetery. Mr. West was predeceased by his parents, Henry A. West and Mary Diebold West, and sister Mary Ellen (West) Wittnebert. Born in East Orange, NJ, Henry had lived in Westfield and Scotch Plains, before settling in Holmdel in 1966, where he had resided ever since. Henry was a general contractor and developer, and President of Henry A. West & Sons of Holmdel. During his life, Henry was a highly regarded residential & commercial contractor, building hundreds of homes, town houses and office buildings throughout central New Jersey. Building primarily in Holmdel, Mr. West's homes are known for their ability to promote unique structural designs while maintaining the natural beauty of the community. Before moving to Holmdel, Mr. West had worked with his father building homes in Westfield and Scotch Plains. Henry is survived by his loving wife of fifty-seven years Anita West (nee DeCuollo), and his children, Henry L., William J. and his wife Devin, Sharon Witiw and her husband Eric, Robert J., Louis C., Guy M. and his wife Sandra, Carla Kelly and her husband Kris, as well as eleven grandchildren, Steven, Eric, Julie, Amy, Helena, Henry, Cecelia, Valerie, Louis, Joseph and James. Henry had a strong commitment to the community and civic affairs. He had been Chairman of the Bayshore Hospital Board of Trustees, Chairman of Bayshore Community Health Services, and received the Humanitarian Recognition Award in 1998 for his service there. Henry is a Lifetime Member of the Holmdel Volunteer Fire Department; past Vice President of the New Jersey Shore Builders Association; Board Member of Holmdel Cemetery; former Board member of the YMCA-Camp Arrowhead; and former Board Member of Franklin State Bank. Henry was an avid golfer and longtime member of Manasquan River Golf Club, where he enjoyed the friendship of fellow members, their families and club staff.
