Obituary of Father Leonard P. Lang
Reverend Leonard P. Lang, Jr., 68, passed away on January 16, 2015 after a long illness. Father Len was born to Helen B. O'Leary and Leonard P. Lang Sr. in Newark, New Jersey and grew up in Hillside, New Jersey. He was predeceased by his parents and twin sister Clair Ellen Lang. He is survived by his brother Philip E. Lang (Vivian) of New Egypt, N.J. and Michael L. Lang (Marjorie) of Eatontown, N.J. He is also survived by his two nieces Anita Anne Fennimore and Megan K. Lang, as well as two nephews Philip E. Lang, Jr. and Michael P. Lang, and seven cousins. He was a graduate of St. Mary's College, St. Mary's Kentucky and Mount Saint Mary's Seminary, Emmitsburg, MD. His priesthood began on May 17, 1975 at St. Mary's Cathedral in Trenton, when he was ordained by Bishop George Ahr. Father Lang had served ably as associate pastor of St. Ann's Church, Browns Mills, N.J., St. Mary's Church in Deal, N.J., St. Anselm's Church in Wayside, N.J., and St. Dominic's Church in Brick, N.J. Father Lang was appointed pastor of St. Mary's Church in Barnegat on December 16, 1990 where he was joined by a gentile little Yorkshire Terrier. 'Barney' has performed admirably as the Church special mascot as well as Father Lang's faithful companion for years. Father Lang was appointed pastor at Holy Spirit Church in Asbury Park, N.J. on February 10, 1992 and Pastor at St. Leo the Great, Lincroft, N.J. on May 3, 2003. In addition, Father Len was the Catholic Chaplin at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune, N.J. for many years. He was also appointed by Bishop John C. Reiss as the Bishop's Liason for AIDS Ministry in Monmouth County which was one of Father Len's on-going ministries. His endless support to those with AIDS in Monmouth County and to the children of St. Clare's Home, Barnegat, N.J. for children with AIDS is known and appreciated by many. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Holmdel Funeral Home, Holmdel, N.J. Visitation will be from 3:00P.M. until 8:00P.M. on Monday January 19, 2015 at the Roman Catholic Church of St. Leo the Great, 50 Hurley's Lane, Lincroft, N.J. A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00A.M. Interment will then follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia, N.J. In lieu of sending flowers donations in his memory may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 262 – Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN. 38105.
