Catherine (Betty) Smyth, 81 of MIDDLETOWN, passed away at Bayside Manor in Keansburg on Sunday evening, January 2, 2011. Born in South Orange, NJ, Mrs. Smyth (nee Brennan) moved to Middletown in 1959. Mrs. Smyth started working for Bell Laboratories in 1947, initially working on the switchboards and eventually becoming an executive secretary. Mrs. Smyth was a parishioner of St Leo the Great in Lincroft. She enjoyed walking and travel, as well as spending time with friends and family. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband of 43 years, Bernard Smyth and her brother, Owen (Buddy) Brennan. She is survived by her two sons, David Smyth of Baltimore, MD and Michael of Middletown; two loving daughter-in-laws and six beloved grandchildren, her brother Patrick Brennan of Bluffton, SC and many cousins, nieces and nephews. In lieu of sending flowers, the family would appreciate a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
