Joan Smith of Holmdel died peacefully on Monday, April 12th at Overlook Hospital after a brief illness in the presence of her loving family. Born in Perth Amboy, Joan graduated from Woodbridge High School and received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Albright College. She then taught Home Economics in Michigan and New Jersey, served as former President of the Holmdel High School Music Association, and served as a long time volunteer for Holmdel Theatre Company and Bayshore Hospital where she was a Bereavement Counselor and a committee member of its Foundation. Joan was predeceased by her parents, Johannes Nielsen and Astrid Iversen Nielsen and her son, Duncan Smith. A loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she is survived by her husband of 55 years, Wendell A. Smith of Holmdel, her daughter Krista Smith and son-in-law Michael Quattrone of Pocantico Hills, NY and her three grandchildren Willow, Jasper and Fox.
