Obituary of Florence M. Gerahty
Florence M. Gerahty, 83, of Manalapan passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of June 21st, after suffering greatly since last February. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she lived in the house in which she was born on 58th Street up until 2001, at which time she moved to Manalapan to be closer to her sons and grandchildren. She was a devout Catholic, and practiced her faith her entire lifetime. Prior to her moving to Manalapan, she was a parishioner of St. Athanasius R.C.Church in Brooklyn, the Church at which she received all of her Sacraments. During the 60?s she was active in different programs at St. Athanasius School while her sons were attending there. She was also a member of the Rosarians, and other parish organizations at St. Athanasius. Florence touched hundreds if not thousands of lives throughout her lifetime. She was the go to person not only for family and friends, but for anyone at all. She was always willing and able to help anyone at all in whatever it was that they needed. Her heart was open to anyone at any time. It is easy to say that she truly lead a life of doing for others always before herself, and always in her quiet way no publicity wanted nor needed at all. If she liked you it was more like she loved you. Her biggest enjoyment was simply being with her family and being around people. She loved children and was a great protector. She always lead you in the right direction. Over the years, she was asked to be Godmother for many of her relatives and friends childrens Christenings ? she has many many Godchildren, near and far these days. She worked for many in the Public School system in Brooklyn prior to her retirement., where countless lives were touched, and people were very fond of her and loved her. Florence was just a wonderful person, and a totally devoted and loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to all whom she now leaves behind. She may be gone from us for now, but she will never be forgotten in any way at all. She has left hard shoes to fill, but it is now our duty to preserve all that she stood for and fashioned her life after as well. We have truly been blessed to be able to call this woman Mom, and Nana. Florence was predeceased by her parents, a brother, a sister, a special loving aunt Bella, and by her husband, James D. Gerahty. She is survived by her sons Bernard M.D., Gerard, Patrick, James and Kevin, daughters Marie O'Leary, Patricia McGregor, and Jeanne Raimondi, by her daughter in law and best friend Mary Ann, by her sister Gladys Sturiale, her grandchildren James and his fiancee Felicia, Anthony John, Patrick, Stephanie, Kate Ann, Kevin, Christopher, Kimberley, James, Robert, Michael, Jacqueline, John, Joseph, and by her loving nieces and nephews. Mom, Nana Fla, go in peace to your eternal reward you have done your work here and we will never ever forget you! We will all love and miss you forever!
