Obituary of Carol Hertgen
Carol Hertgen 83, of Draper, Utah passed away on Thursday, February 4th, 2016. Mrs. Hertgen was born in Jersey City where she spent her childhood. She attended Boston College and began her career as a nurse at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. She later moved to Middletown where she received her Master’s degree from Kean University and was a school nurse in Middletown Twp for many years, retiring in 1998. She later moved to Brick Twp., before relocating to Draper, Utah. Mrs. Hertgen was a parishioner of St. Luke’s Church in Toms River for many years. She loved to read and go on long walks. She was well known for being a caring nurse through her career. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles Hertgen, her son, Scott Hertgen, and her sister Eileen Sweet. She is survived by her two sons, David and his wife Debra of Toms River, and Richard and his wife Jacqueline of Draper, Utah; a daughter, Patricia and her husband Stephen of Howell; and her eight grandchildren, David, Matthew, Joseph, Stephen, Lauren, Lindsay, Shane, and Abigail. Visitation will be on Monday from 5-8 pm at Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, at 10 am at Historic St. Gabriel’s Church, 549 Rt. 520, Marlboro, NJ 07746. Interment will follow at St. Gabriel’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Carol’s name to the St. Jude’s Childrens Reseach Hospital at www.stjude.org, and to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org.
