Obituary of Abbie W. Brockwell
Abbie W. Brockwell of Holmdel died Saturday December 12th at home after a long illness. Born in Red Bank, NJ, she lived her childhood years on a farm in Lincroft, graduated from Middletown High School in 1956 and moved to Holmdel in 1963. She was a proud lifelong resident of Monmouth County. A member of the New Jersey 4-H Club, she was chosen in 1956 to represent the State of New Jersey in the national 4-H dress review as the guest of Simplicity Patterns. Her love of sewing took her to Douglass College where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics in 1960. A teacher at Monmouth Regional High School for over 40 years when she retired in 2004, she was known for her fashion shows, food service program and Halloween costumes. She served as the Affirmative Action Officer from 1992 to 1998 and was the Director of the Minority Mentor Academic Achievement Program. She was named New Jersey Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher of the Year in 2001. She was past President and trustee of the New Jersey Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. She was very active with her children and many hobbies; gourmet cook, den mother for Troop 131, owner of Bayshore Craft Design, and biggest fan of BYAA Babe Ruth baseball. Reconnecting with her Middletown school friends, she enjoyed several years of sharing memories, songs and good weather in Florida. She was predeceased by her parents Harold and Loretta Willgerodt. Surviving is her high school sweetheart and husband for almost 50 years John T. Brockwell, Jr. She also is survived by her children Abbie and Bob Small of Locust, Alicia Brockwell of Los Angeles, California and John and Amanda Brockwell of Little Silver. She was a devoted and loving grandmother to her 'little guys' Rob and Chris Small and Elizabeth Small. A private family burial was held at Glenwood Cemetery, West Long Branch. The family will be celebrating her life at the home of Abbie and Bob Small, 446 Locust Point Road, Locust on Sunday December 20th from 3:00 to 7:00.
