It took me a while to come up with words to describe Joe Curley. Growing up me and Joe were always paired together as "the big guys". We had countless things in common and always hung around each other, looking back the only thing that really separated us was the fact that he lived in Farmingdale which we always complained about!!!! (since most of us lived in lincroft) Whenever i think of joe I only think of that chuckle he had and that big old smile. I remember in middle school, Joe, jack, steve, and I stuck together doing all the weird things we did. But we all did it together and we loved it. He was a special person, someone who I will truly miss. It kills me that as we grew up we grew apart. The last real contact (and i mean literally!) I had with joe was when we were freshman in High school and I scrimmaged his team in football. I know he was someone that at a drop of a hat, would help a friend out. Love you buddy, miss you, and will never forget you

Karen, I was shocked when Christine told me about your son. I can not imagine what you and your family are going through, but you are in my thoughts and prays. I always remember you talking about the boys and you were always so active in their lives. You are a great mom and I will always remember you with a smile and a laugh (ok sometimes "we can't believe they said or did that" story from both of us) when we talked about our children. Thoughts and prays are with you. Eileen Higgins

Dearest Curley Family, Our boys, Peter and Brian Clabby, spent many many fun moments playing Bill Grier Basketball with Joe. They always had kind words to say about Joe, he was funny, smart, happy, easy going, and an unselfish team mate. They always asked their father to pick Joe for the "draft." Our boys were deeply saddened, as all the Clabbys were at hearing of Joe's untimely passing. He will never be forgotten in this household and is a wonderful part of their boyhood... We Clabbys have much power in prayer and will be sending many comforting thoughts and prayers your way. With love, The Peter and Mary Clabby family

Mark, Karen, Brendan & Ryan, There are no words we can say to heal the wounds of this ultimate tragedy. Right now, it must seem unexplainable, incomprehensible, senseless and you must probably feel inconsoleable. Our hearts and thoughts are with you and your entire family as you begin the road to recovery. You WILL move forward through the next few seconds, minutes, days, weeks, months and years to come. You WILL learn to live with the loss and slowly become part of the living. The shock will turn to sadness and that is natural. The sadness WILL slowly turn back into beautiful, wonderful memories. Right now, your broken hearts overwhelm your very being...but with love and time...you will persevere. We speak these words - as we JUST suffered a very similar tragedy JUST 6 weeks ago. Bruce's son Jarrod (9) died suddenly, in his sleep, for absolutely no reasonable reason. We have been living through the pain and wanted to share our love & support. Each day WILL pass . . . and through love, family, friends, faith, inner strength and your parental instinct to care for your sons, you WILL rebuild your lives. Karen, I am so very, very sorry. You spoke ALWAYS of your boys. I received a card from you nearly every year. My heart aches for your loss. Be there for each other... be thre for your sons. Joe will be there for you - to give you strength - to live through this terrible tragedy. Love always, your special friend, Christine & Bruce

Dear Curley Family, When I think back on the memories I have of my time with Joe, his warm smile immediately comes to mind. I remember back to the fun we had in our freshman biosystems group and a number of classes together at High Tech. He was the kind of person who knew what really was important in the grand scheme of things. You could always count on Joe to cheer you up with a joke, and he was everyone's friend. Thank you for sharing Joe with us over the last four years.

When I think of Joe Curley, I think of a man who set an example for those around him. Joe was always a happy go getting guy. Whether it be at 9AM on a monday morning in bio class answering questions that no one else could figure out or playing paintball in my woods with me, Joe Curley was always the guy people wanted to have around. I had the privilege to be in just about every class with Joe throughout High School. Whenever you needed help Joe was right there. He always was willing to do anything for anyone. That is a hard person to come by. I last talked to Joe over spring break and he told me how much he enjoyed UConn. We were going to hang out together when I got back but my break started when his ended. Joe told me how he was doing karate and getting involved at Uconn. I was always trying to convince him to join the paintball team there and he said he would tryout eventually. To the Curley family, I am sorry for your loss. I know I can't say anything that will take the feeling away how Joe is not with us anymore. I would just like you to know that Joe will be missed and I enjoyed spending every minute with him, even when he was firing paintballs at me. Joe you will be missed. Rest in Peace

Dear Curley family, I am so sorry for your loss. Joe was a great person, and Ill always remember him as an irreplaceable part of our High Tech family. Joe was in my homeroom all four years of high school, though junior year sticks out in my mind the most. That was the year that Joe brought our homeroom to victory in the SGAs trivia game all four marking periods. He would surprise us every morning with all the random facts he knew; it was incredible. Joe was always so enthusiastic and ready with a joke in any situation. I will miss him. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

I didn't share many classes with Joe at High Tech, but he was a wonderful guy--always had a smile for someone in the hallway, always very gentlemanly, and always very funny. I still remember the Halloween when he dressed up as his World of Warcraft character--most of the costume was the sign he had above his head! I loved the originality of it. There's a lot I can say about Joe Curley. Probably the most serious out of all his friends and yet he was the most cuddly and one to lean on. I have so many fond memories of him ranging from algebra 1 with Dr. Eng to finally AP bio of senior year. He was always fun to be around. He always had words of wisdom or a funny joke. You really never knew what to expect out of him. I remember the first time he told me the family name, Podulka. I made it my job to call him Po every chance I got. Joe was amazing. He was smart, he was funny, he was an all around great guy with great friends and a wonderful family. I like to think that High Tech was his second family. My heart goes out to you, his family. I grieve with you and for you. These next months will be hard but remember Joe will never be truly gone. He will live on in our hearts, in our minds, in our memories. He will be missed but never forgotten. Please accept my condolences.
