Obituary of Marion I. Garrigan
Marion (Strunk) Garrigan, formerly of Holmdel, New Jersey, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2009. She was predeceased by her parents, Helmuth and Irene Strunk of Fairlawn, N.J. Born, January 14, 1932, Marion graduated from Fairlawn High School. She was an actress and model in Las Vegas and New York appearing on numerous television variety shows including Steve Allen, Perry Como and The Martha Rae Show. She also performed in the road company show of Little Abner, traveling the northeast in 1959. Earlier that year she married James Garrigan of Maplewood, N.J. They resided in Holmdel for 28 years where they had two boys, James III who resides in Point Pleasant, and Thomas who passed away on January 25, 1983. In 1968 she was voted Mrs. Jersey and was runner up for the title of Mrs. America. Marion is survived by three grandchildren, James of Austin, TX, Tara and Shaye, of Savannah, GA; her sister, Marlene Nikoukary, of Acworth, GA and her brother, Ralph Strunk of Old Bridge as well as several nieces and nephews. Marion previously resided in Spring Lake Heights and Lake Worth, Florida, before spending her final years at Brandywine Assisted Living Facility in Brick Township. The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the nurses and staff of Brandywine, of Grace Healthcare Services (Hospice) and of Angel's In Our Home Personal Care. Not only was their care exceptional, but their friendships with Marion and her family were truly a blessing.
