Obituary of Arthur T. Goodwin
Arthur Thomas Goodwin, 84, passed away on September 15, 2010. He was born in Brooklyn, NY and has resided in Colts Neck since 1966. Arthur served in the Navy as a communications officer from 1945 -1947. Following his stint in the military, Arthur attended Colgate University and graduated in 1952. He then worked for Avon for 30 years, where he retired as the director of new product development. Arthur volunteered with the Colts Neck Fire Department for over 35 years, and in the time held the offices of treasurer, captain, vice president, and president. He also volunteered with the Colts Neck First Aid Squad where he served as vice president and president, and also held the ranks of 1st and 2nd lieutenant and captain. Arthur was masters of ceremonies for the Colts Neck Memorial Day parade for over 30 years. He was cofounder of Colts Neck Polo and instrumental in the planning of the Colts Neck Library. Arthur also served as a three-term committeeman of Colts Neck Township where he held the office of mayor for two terms, and also served as liaison between Colts Neck and the Earle Naval Weapons Station. Predeceased by his beloved wife, of 50 years, Margaret Long, Arthur is survived by his children and their spouses, Mark and Lisa, Darren and Angela, Mary Beth and Wayne, and Andrew. Arthur was a devoted fan of his 8 grandchildren; Michael, Shaun, Maria, Ryan, Margaret, Jack, Margo, andPatrick. Arthur was “Absolutely” the best husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 3 to 8 pm Sunday at the Colts Neck Fire House #2, Conover Rd. The funeral will be held at St. Mary’s Church, Colts Neck at 9 am on Monday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Colts Neck Volunteer Fire Department, Colts Neck First Aid, or Colts Neck Polo.
