Obituary of Joseph D. Donatelli
Joseph D. Donatelli, aged 94, of Astoria, New York, passed away on Saturday, October 21st in Tinton Falls, New Jersey.
Born in Portland, Maine in 1923, Joe grew up mainly in Astoria (Queens), New York before moving to New Jersey in 2007. He graduated from William Cullen Bryant High School. He subsequently served in the Army Air Force in World War II from 1943-1945 as a gunner and mechanic on a B-17 bomber. He participated in the Allied offensive in Germany. Afterwards, he became a Lieutenant in the New York City Fire Department, where he worked for 38 years. He retired in 1987. He said his time spent in the New York City Fire Department were "the best years of his life." He truly loved his job and the people that the worked with.
Joe was predeceased by his wife Olga, his parents, Gervasio and Linda Donatelli, and also by his siblings; Candida Aldorasi, Lilla Giorlando, Gilberto Donatelli, Roverito Donatelli, and Licurgo (John) Donatelli. He is survived by his daughter Diane, son-in-law Robert, and four grandchildren: Luke, Jack, Ryan and Olivia. He is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Monday, October 23rd, from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel, New Jersey. 07733. Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, October 24th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 1 Phalanx Road, Colts Neck, New Jersey 07722.
Interment will follow at Mount Saint Mary Cemetery, 172-00 Booth Memorial Avenue, Flushing, New York, 11365.
