I met this beautiful, highly unusual soul in 1994. There was a knock at my door. I opened the door to find this woman, a stranger to me at the time and wearing what might have been a bird nest that was transformed into a hat. I'm not sure, it Being so long ago now, I'm unsure but there may have been some stuffed birds in it. The woman said "hello my name is Leona and I saw your wife at the pool with your child and I'm going to teach her to Swim. Since we are neighbors you get a discount." Soon after I met her bum of a son mark who quickly became my friend and business partner. I made a few dollars with him over a handful of years and during that time, I met his two beautiful hearted sisters. They both were very intelligent, interesting and Absolutely beautiful inwardly and out. Leona taught my 27 year old daughter, a two year old baby at that time, how to swim beautifully. To this day for some reason crazy hats make her nervous but she has learned to live with it. Lol. I've traveled around the sun over 20x since we last spent time together, but a part of her has remained with me. Like myself, our very very dear Leona moved to the beat of her own drum. Now she is in a place so beautiful and peaceful, no words exist that come close to being able to describe this place. Leona touched my life and unlike so many people I've met, she has left this world a much more beautiful place. It's time for you to rest Leona. You have done your time here and all that have been touched by your grace are among the fortunate ones.

I have many memories of Leona that I still tell my children on occasion. First is, she called me David. I think she figured if she called me David long enough I'd turn into a Jewish son in law instead a big Italian guy with tattoos. She had an amazing sense of humor and a way of always smiling. She cracked herself up. The first time I met Leona she made me a wonderful dinner of boiled hotdogs and shredded carrots with one raisin on the top. But most of all the one thing nobody can dispute is the love she had for her children. Always a kind person. May God rest her in peace.

What can I say about Leona .... She was a royal but needed pain in my butt . But I wouldn't have her any other way. I remember when we lived in the same complex on the beach she would come over Monday morning 6 AM asking us what we wanted for dinner on Friday and we would be like oh my goodness we're sleeping! And she would say just tell me what you want and then you can go back to sleep it was hilarious she will be missed but never forgotten and in my heart because the Mancino's are my family . Love you Limona.. lol
