Obituary of Rosa DeMarco
Rosa DeMarco, 77 of Colts Neck died on Monday, May 22nd.
Mrs. DeMarco was born in Trevico, Italy in 1939. In 1961, she and her husband, Antonio came to the United States with their first two children and settled in the Vailsburg section of Newark where two more of their children were born. The family moved to Hazlet in 1967 and then to Colts Neck in April, 1981.
Soon after arriving in the United States, Rosa and Antonio were able to purchase a three family home which they lived in and earned a supplemental income while renting the additional apartments. There they began a dry cleaning and tailoring shop. Rosa was proud that she and Antonio owned homes in Colts Neck, Rome, New York, Manchester and Barnegat.
For many years Rosa worked as a seamstress in the Colts Neck and Red Bank area. Rosa worked very hard and was extremely proud that all four of her children became professionals, earning their college degrees as well as graduate degrees. Rosa was a parishioner of St. Mary's RC Church, Colts Neck. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. Rosa enjoyed cooking and hosting many family get-togethers.
Rosa and Antonio were in an award winning documentary about WWII and their experiences. The film won the Italian Golden Globe Award.
Rosa was pre-deceased by her beloved Antonio on December 30th, 2016.
She is survived by her loving children, Vincent DeMarco and his wife Molly Mitchell, Baltimore, MD, Nicola Antonio DeMarco, J.D., New York City, Brunella DeMarco and her husband David Planenshek, Whiting and Marlana and Barry Hogan, Millstone; her brothers and their wives, Ruggiero and Livia Scavina, Wilmington, DE. and Pasquale and Angelina Scavina, Rome, Italy; three grandchildren, Anthony and James DeMarco and Barry Hogan.
Visitation Friday, May 26th 4:00 - 8:00 pm at the Holmdel Funeral Home, 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday May 27th 10:30 am at St. Mary's RC Church, 1 Phalanx Road, Colts Neck. Entombment Holmdel Mausoleum.
