Robin Bosso Bellan, Pensacola Catholic High School, Class of 58 posted a condolence
Tuesday, March 13, 2018
To the family of Mary Lou Merritt. I am sending thoughts and prayers on behalf of the Pensacola Catholic High School Class of '58. Mary Lou and Bill attended our 50th class reunion in March 2008 and at least one other gathering after his untimely medical condition surfaced. Mary Lou always responded to our class e-mails and kept us in the loop about Bill's condition and what was going on in their family. They were constantly in our prayers as we were in theirs. We were so shocked when we found out about Mary Lou's untimely death. Please know that we will continue to keep this family in our prayers. Bill was a very popular member of our class, and there are no words to express our heartfelt sympathy on the loss of Mary Lou. Please accept our condolences and somehow continue to keep us in the loop. I can be reached at rbellan@peoplepc.com, Robin Bellan, 1220 Northbrook Drive, Pensacola, Fl 32504 or give me a call anytime @ 850-516-4017. We love your family.

Maire and I taught together for many years at St. John Vianney High School. She was an inspiration not only to her students, but also to our entire community at SJV. She lived Jesus' message and by her example and warm smile, she lifted us up in times of difficulty. She was also a great influence to my daughters, Julie, Jenny and Rachel who were students at SJV. She was loved by students and faculty alike and she will be missed. Maire, pray for us. I know you are with God.

Thoughts and prayers go out to the family. I had the pleasure of working with Mary Lou for a long time and I cannot estimate how many young lives she helped mentor and helped mold her Christian values into them. She was truly a great example of what Saint John Vianney is about! God Bless Jack Shepherd

Mrs. Merritt's smile lit up a room. I was blessed to receive that smile every morning for Senior year at SJV. She was a wonderful model of kindness, caring, devotion and family. Her humor, guidance, intelligence and enthusiasm were cherished gifts. As a mother, I am filled with gratitude for her amazing example and encouragement. I wrote her a congratulatory note when she was honored at the luncheon at The Shadowbrook in 2004. She wrote me back a beautiful note and said she was "always in my fan club." It brings heartwarming smiles to me, because I, like so many of us, was one of her biggest fans! As the Pope said, "True Christians have cheerful faces and eyes full of joy." She certainly fulfilled that! We are blessed to have experienced Mrs. Merritt's true Christianity in our Lancer community and beyond. Her legacy will live on in her beautiful daughters. She beamed with pride when she spoke of you both. May you find peace and comfort at this sad time. A special angel is looking over you. Love, Lisa Teevan Carey & Family

Mrs. Merritt helped me through one of the hardest times in my life. She always had time and an ear, weather it was family issues, friend issues or me freaking out my car broke down at Christian Service. She once told me when I was nervous before a very long plane flight" not to worry God was in control and will protect me and if it was my time to not be scared because he will be there. " This is something that helped me way back then and still now as I meet different challenges in my life. She was a beautiful person. The kind that don't come around too often and she will be missed. My love ,prayers and deepest sympathy to the Merritt family and everyone missing her right now

Few people in this world have truly touched so many lives in such a genuine, faith-filled, and vibrant manner as Mary Lou. She entered my first wife Kathy's life in 1979, and was responsible for bringing us together in 1980. Since Kathy's untimely death from cancer in 1987, Maire has remained a faithful friend as we've watched each other's children grow. Her devotion to Nora, Bill, and Eileen Rose, her students, family, and her lifelong friends has been truly an inspiration to me, and my heart aches for all who will miss this most special light in our world. May God receive you in His loving arms, and may her family find peace and comfort. Well done, good and faithful servant. Charlie Bathon

Maire is one of my "twin" cousins. I am 5 years older than they, and as we lived a good distance away we did not see them very much. But, the other day as I was going through my mother's photo albums I discovered a large 8X10 photo of Maire and her sister Ann. They must have been about 5-6 months old. Obviously my mother thought a lot of them, to have kept that photo for all these years. Maire, you shall be one of our champions in heaven. God speed. Bernardette

I will miss Marie she was the reason I regained my faith after being away from my religion for 40 years. I was a member of her faith sharing group for 3 years. She changed my life with her strong belief in God and shared that with all of us that came in contact with her. I believe she will be remembered by all of us and she is with Christ now praying for all of us that are suffering for our loss. Love you Marie you will always be someone special I will keep in my thoughts and prayers. Love Christine Hart
