Obituary of Edward B. Schumacher
Edward Schumacher, born October 1, 1922 in Jersey City, NJ died Saturday, April 23, 2011. He was predeceased by his parents Otto and Henrietta Schumacher, his sister Irene Schumacher, and Doris , his beloved wife of 65 years. He is survived by his niece Elizabeth Olsen and his cousin Joan Henricksen. Edward graduated from Newark College of Engineering and pursued courses at Stevens Institute of technology. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army. Edward worked at Exxon in Linden, NJ for over 25 years, traveling extensively world wide as a top trouble shooter. Utilizing his engineering skills, he held multiple patents there. Upon retirement from Exxon in 1980, he began his own engineering consultant business, PROMAC, which he ran successfully for 10 years. Edward was a member of the Holmdel Community Church, UCC for 60 years, where he served faithfully on multiple committees and in many leadership positions. You need only look around at the church sanctuary and grounds or speak with one of the many people whose lives he touched to understand his deep faith and love for his church community. He was a tireless advocate for the environment and community issues. He and Doris put aside 5 acres of their property adjacent to Holmdel Park for land conservation. They were longtime supporters of the SPCA and animal rights within the county. Everyone was family; his home was open to all. He will be sorely missed. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00PM at the Holmdel Funeral Home 26 South Holmdel Road, Holmdel. A Funeral Service will be offered Wednesday 11:00AM at the Holmdel Community Church, Holmdel. Interment will be in the Holmdel Cemetery.
