Tom and I first met in 1960 at AA&Co when we were sent to Kentucky for two weeks to audit an oil producer. Tom was in charge. I quickly realized that Tom was a special person and we became friends throughout our careers and beyond. He was the smartest partner in the office and fellow partners always came to him for advice and to help solve difficult business situations. I never heard anyone say an unkind word about Tom. He was held in the highest esteem by clients, friends and fellow workers. Tom was a wonderful person and I can't say enough about how much his friendship meant to me. My wife Charlene, who also worked with Tom, shares these feelings. Tom, we will always remember you as you were - a humble, genuine person whose company was always a treat. Our sincere condolences to Jackie and family. Steve and Charlene Hennesey

My sincere condolences to Jackie and the family. I t ransferred into the Newark office from Chicago and Tom and I and Bill Brandner were the only audit managers among a sea of Partners. He was always kind and helpful and managed to keep his cool in the rough going. Rest in peace, Tom you had a life well lived.

Tom was a great friend and mentor who I spent considerable time with at Arthur Andersen, whether on a client engagement (and we had many together )or perhaps having a Manhattan after work. He always provided me with wise counsel and advice that I continue to use on clients with financial problems to this day. I will never forget his sitting to my left, attorney to my right, as I gave 18 days of depositions on the Black Watch Farms litigation in New York. His help was immense. My wife Sally and I remember fondly our dinners with Tom and Jackie at the Jersey Shore when they lived in Lakewood and Tom showed up with a pitcher of Manhattan's. It was always a good night. Sally and I send our condolences to Jackie, her and Tom's children and all other family members. Tom's was a life well spent with devotion to his family first, as well as to his many friends at Andersen and elsewhere. May he rest in peace. Sally and Tom Curtin

Tom was a great friend and my partner at AA&Co. for over 30 years. My wife, Dolores, and I remember fondly the many trips we took with Tom and Jackie over the years. My children remember especially a dinner we all had in Bermuda during one of our trips. Tom was one of the smartest individuals I ever met. When I had a problem at work I would always go to Tom for advice because he was always willing to help and could offer a practical solution, We played many rounds of golf together. Tom was not the best golfer I knew but he enjoyed the game more than anyone else. Dolores and I offer our condolences to Jackie, their children and the extended family. Tom, Rest In Peace . We will always remember you as a special individual and dear friend. Joe and Dolores

My heart goes out to the Shortells and everyone who knew and loved Thomas. I first met him in 1974, as a freshman in HS, and Tom, Jr.’s friend and co-conspirator. I will never forget his dry wit or the home he had made for his family.

We met through the Whalens, Tony played golf with Tom,even though they were both lousy golfers, loved the sport. Jackie & I painted together. Tom had such s joy for life, the four of us became good friends & great traveling partners. If Tom saw a cruise that he liked, we,d make plans & off we would go. If Ann found a trip, off we would go again. Jackie & Tony gladley came along, the four of us had such fun. Tom taught me how to order a Jack Daniel Manhatten. When they moved to Sarasota, from PGA we were crushed, but we knew that it would be better for them to be near family. We have such fond memories! Tom & Jackie will always remain our best friends! We had become part of each others families We will miss your joyful laugh your special quips. REST IN PEACE DEAR FRIEND!!!! Ann & Tony
